MANISOL
( 20% Mannitol BP)

Description :
Manisol is a clear, almost colorless and sterile solution of Mannitol. Each 100 ml Manisol contains Mannitol 20gm BP. Administered parenterally; Manisol raises the osmotic pressure of the plasma, thus drawing water out of the body tissues and produces an osmotic diuresis.

Dosage :
Adult: 25-200 gm by I.V over 24 hrs, although an adequate response is generally achieved with a dosage of 100 gm.
Children: 1-2 gm/kg body wt should be administered over a period of 2-6 hrs.

Adverse Effects:

1. Fluid & electrolytes imbalance
2. Circulatory overload,
3. Nausea, vomiting, thirst, headache, dizziness, fever.

Precaution: :
Careful monitoring of rate of administration of Manisol is necessary to avoid fluid and electrolyte imbalance and circulatory overload. The infusion should be discontinued if the patient develops signs of progressive renal dysfunction, heart failure or pulmonary congestion

Pregnancy & Lactation: : It is not established yet that Manisol is safe in Pregnancy & Lactation.

Presentation: : Manisol is available in 500 ml PVC bag containing 20% w/v of Mannitol.
